    Oil Filter Conversion?



    Is there a conversion for the original oil filter on my 1949 Buick Super 50?
    Has anyone changed it? For that matter, should it be changed? It seems obsolete to me but I have been wrong before. You can see it in the right of the pic I took of my engine today.

    So, in answer to my original question: It's not neccesary. I could get away with just changing the oil ever 1000 miles. That link I was sent to was kind of confusing. I guess if Im not doing a salt flat racer and I just want to cruise around town, the original filter will be just fine. Also, where there should be full pictures on the setups in the previous link, there is nothing.

    The original filter, which your photo shows, is there for one purpose only: to provide relatively cleanish oil to the lifters. All the crud that the engine generates is drifting around in the oil, mostly it's from the cumbustion process getting past the rings, which arn't much good. Change the oil every 1000 miles, or when it starts to darken up, it's cheep insurance. If the relativly barely used oil bugs you to toss out, put it in your lawn mower or something with a full flow filter, it'll go a long time. alleycat
