    '54 Super Starter replacement

Has anyone replaced their starter with an aftermarket model?
Found these as parts train but they don't even look anything like the OM.

My '54 Super is 100% stock, and does not want to start as of late and only makes a one solid click sound when trying to start, and I found these while shopping around.

I think you'll find the stock starter will work fine with a bit of maintenance. The first thing to look at is the cables from the battery. Check to see if they're in good shape, particularly where the clamp to the battery connects to the cable itself. Clean all connections completely, including the ground. Replace any cables that are suspect. If you're still running 6 volts (I can't remember the cutoff) be certain that the cables are heavy enough. 12 volt cables are too light. If none of that works, try replacing the solenoid before you change the whole starter. Most starters are extremely tough and give far less trouble than all of the attendant hardware.

You can also just take it into someone who fixes that sort of thing. Most starter just need brushes and bushing to make them good again. Cheep!

check your starter, and ground cables for looseness or corrorosion.
sounds like the solenoid contact. they can be found in ebay as well as replacement solenoids.

    Tanks tons

Thank you all for your advice.
    I am on it now.
I do agree that with the maintenance they will go a long way, it's just that I am very limited to my mechanical, and especially electric, skills. Plus I am currently injured and limited with my movements.
So I will contact a starter/generator rebuild shop tomorrow to see if they can rebuild it.

    Cheers,
    -C

Would be a good idea to check your wiring first, mainly the cables, as if that the cause then you will still have the problem.
