    1937 series 40 - 248 rear main seal

Can anyone tell me if a 1937 248 series 40 engine has a rear main seal ? I am ready to assemble my engine and do not think it has one, but am not sure. Please help if you know the answer. Thanks

As I remember it has a rope seal. The 37 Cadillac did not have a rear seal and used a PCV system instead.

The 37 Buick did not have a rear main seal, but the 37 Cadillac (348 V-8) did have a rope seal. I have rebuilt several of these engines.

1937 series 40 rear main seal replies

Thanks guys for your answers. I felt that there wasn't any seal but most gasket kits have one included. Was the 1937 248 the only year not to have a rope seal? And , am I corect to just assemble the crank in the block, put on the rear main cap with no rope seal ? Is the crankshaft slinger all that keeps the oil from running out the rear of the motor. Also now that I think of it is there a rope seal or rubber seal on the front of the crankshaft at the timing cover location? Thanks again guys for all the help, your the best !!!
