    401 motor mounts

hi,maybe someone can help me with this... ive got a 66 electra with a 401 nailhead in it... ive got a problem with the motor mounts... when their installed seems like there is a big gap between the rubber and the frame mount on the chassis, is their a piece missing that was used in factory or is this how its spose to be? i seem to be tearing the mounts more than often... anyone with this same year ? maybe i can see pics of how urs are, maybe im getting wrong mounts??? any help would be great ,thanx

If the '66 Electra mounts are the same as '66 Wildcat mounts they are not available anywhere as far as I know. 1966, one year ONLY. They can be re-vulcanized at various company's. I think that '61-'65 mounts are physically the same construction except they are not as heavy duty. On my '64 Riv. I used to break mounts on a weekly basis. What I did is add 4 links of chain. Welded the chain together & left the center loose, about 1/4" so vibration would be less likely transmitted into the car. I used a heavy flat washer with a bolt about a 1/4" or so longer on each end of the chain. I attached one end of the chain to the upper front motor mount hole & the other end to the middle of the mount underneath. I then painted it black so it would be less visible. Haven't broken a mount in 30+ years.
