See -- this makes sense to me. The pump will fill them with air until it's satisfied and turns off. It's not rocket science, right?

Or am I missing something obvious?

You didn't specify what you are putting them on, but yes they should work as replacements for whatever they fit. If the car has air ride it should work like it did before.

Whoops -- it's the same model as is listed in the thread title: 1998 Buick Park Ave. Thanks for the reply. I feel more at ease now.

I think something is wrong with my pump. It doesn't run until I unplug the connector at the pump and plug it back in. Then it takes off. But then it doesn't restart until I unplug and replug it. Any thoughts on that?

You gotta wonder what GM was thinking when they put that pump atop the muffler.

I just found this thread and wanted to throw in my .02

I have mid 80's model Riviera's and know this system well. As someone previously stated there is nothing difficult to repairing this system when something goes haywire. It is a very neat and functional system that has been used for years in not only GM vehicles but even Fords and other high end cars. The following article explains why it was used and put on the 79-85 E-body cars. I have witnessed several E-body cars where regular shocks were installed or the ELC disconnected. These cars sag bad in the rear which actually messes with your control of the vehicle somewhat. It also makes them prone to hitting or rubbing bottom which can do severe damage or cut a tire. On the opposite end when some have switched to manually adding air they almost always add too much which puts strain on the E-body front end components, resulting in early wear. http://www.hemmings.com/hcc/stories/...feature17.html

By the way if anyone knows of a shop that can repair these leaking compressors please let me know.

What is anyone using as a replacement air compressor when your compressor will not hold pressure anymore? Mine leak down.
