You are correct and the parts is on the top of the steering col. you will need to remove the lower panels and drop the col. to get to the solenoid .Good luck .

Hey All,
I'm usually posting in the '50 section - but I bought my wife this 97 a year ago. Everything's been great, but now she can't get it out of park. I'm assuming it's the BTSI (Brake Transmission Shift Interlock) but I dont have my Haynes manual yet, and I don't know where it is located. Do these go bad? Can you think of anything else it might be?
Thanks!

Thanks for the response... now, on to part 2. I thought I bought the right part (see pic) but I got under the dash (see pic 2) and pulled out something quite different. I'm assuming the part I pulled is the solenoid - it's attached to the shift cable - but the Hanes manual I bought is woefully inadequate.
Can anyone take a look and let me know if I'm on the right track? BTW, the parts places didn't have a clue what a BTSI is, should I be calling it something else while trying to get the part - or do I need to go to the dealer?
Thanks Again!

You are on the right track the part that they sold you is a PNRDL switch and mounts on the top of the trans. and is not what you need .
The part you took out is correct and will have to bought from the dealer . HTH
