Looks like we'll be doing the same job this weekend, the core in my 68 seems to be on it's last legs as well

I've never done this job on a GM car (but three times on Fords....conclusions to be drawn from this maybe) so can't really give any suggestions but I'd asked the same question over in 60's tech and god a couple of good answers and tips:

Not sure if a 64 is laid out like the later models but it should at least give you an overview of what to expect. Heater core's always a big job not sure why they build them like that.

BTW, how's your 64 running? Got the motor problems squared away I hope?

    Heater core problem.

Have you located a heater core?
I really had a hard time finding one this past year for the 71' Buick GS.
Steamy film was coming out onto the front windshield.
It's the second heater core/since 1971. Not bad

    Scott

got the heater core replaced (really easy to do actually)4 bolts on the fire wall pull the cover on the fire wall out and give the core a good push and the whole thing drops out from under the dash(passenger side) 2 bolts to release the core from the housing replaced the core then reinstalled (bout 45min worth of work)engine problems havent been worked out yet will post more info on that in a couple of days
