Push Pedal Start vacuum switch question

Hi - Great site. This is my first post.

I have a 1956 Buick Century Riviera 4door hardtop with the original 322 nailhead and Carter carb.

The carb was rebuilt but the goofball that did it somehow screwed up the vacuum start switch.

I can start it manually by touching the terminals with a screwdriver but the push pedal to start feature won't work.

Does anyone have an idea of what the problem might be, an exploded schematic of the switch workings or, better yet, a replacement switch they would part with or a source for one?

    Thanks
    Anthony

1st classic Buick but other cars include (have included):

    1955 Studebaker Commander Regal hardtop
    1957 Studebaker Silver Hawk
    1964 Imperial Crown Coupe
1966 Mercury Park Lane Breezeway Sedan
    1967 Ford Mustang
    2 1975 MG Midgets

The switch is just a simple contact closure. If you can't get the switch on the carb to work, disconnect the two wires from the carb and extend them inside the car, under the dash. Connect them to a momentary contact switch, and you now have push to start. The starter motor will turn over when you push the switch. Release when the car starts.

Thanks Long Roof. I'll take a look. Unfortunately I have no clue if the rebuilder assembled the unit with the same number of shims or if anything else is missing internally. I'll reference your illustration, pull it apart and take a look. I'd hate to lose the push to start feature as I tend to go for quirkiness in cars - breezeway, Studebaker hillholder, etc. Love classic quirky features.

    Thanks again.
