HI
I have used this site for a lot of my information http://www.agentbudd.com/56Buick/index2.html .
Hopefully you can find what you want in the Buick Service manual.

I took off the bolted collar near the steering gearbox and the 3 notch snapring, but can't get the steering column to turn loose. What am I missing? It is a straignt shift car. Is there somewhere I could see a breakdown of the steering column?
thanks for any leads

I appreciate the link. I found from the link that Buick changed the steering columns in 56. the 56 has a split rag joint to separate the steering column from the gearbox. the 54 and 55 doesn't have such a separation joint. the gearbox has a pressed in tube in the input of the gearbox that the steering column goes over. You can't see how the steering shaft couples to the gearbos input shaft. I assume that there is a splined joint under the shifting forks, but I don't have a breakdown of the steering column to see how it separates.
Thanks for the link.

Hi
I have a Flat Rate Manual that has a blowup of the 52 to 55 Buick steering columb. If you email me at I will send you a picture.
Fix the email address, they do not like email addresses listed due to bots scanning for them. If you can not figure it out I think you can contact me through this site.
