how many miles on the motor?
I am thinking of yanking the motor out of the Skylark after the fall. My intention is to "freshen" up the motor. Right now the motor runs, blows no smoke, but does have some bearing noise at startup.
This is a list of what I am considering:
1) New Main Bearings
2) New Rod Bearings
3) New Cam Bearings
4) New Rings
5) Hot tank the block and chase all of the oil galleys
6) Timing chain
I am hoping the pistons and cylinder walls are still good and I can get away with just rings. I am considering leaving the heads alone, but I'll know more when I pull them off.
Does the camshaft usually need to be replaced in these engines?
Does anyone have recomendations for other things I should replace?
The other thing I would like is information on detailing the engine. The guy I bought the car from said the engine was "deatiled" before I bought it. His version of "deatiled" meant hitting the entire engine with red spray paint :-(.
I realize I'm asking for lots of info here, but I would appreciate the help :-).
Thanks
Marc
