    64 Riviera - 425 - Pushrod issue

I recently became the proud owner of a 64 Rivi that has been in the family for over 30 years. It had an existing tap/knock and I started investagating. It wasn't a deep knock and was inconsistant. I pulled the valve cover and assembly and removed the pushrods one by one to inspect them. The first two went back in ok, the third did not stop on the lifter and wants to drop all the way down. I've searched and searched and can't find any reason why this would happen.

Can anyone tell me why after pulling out a pushrod from a normal position, why it would want to drop all the way down when putting it back in?

    Thanks a bunch

The clip in the hydraulic lifter came out & the cup stuck to the bottom of the pushrod via suction, then fell off before the rod came all the way out. No noise would have been heard because it is so small & light. The ticking is probably worn out rocker shafts/rocker arms. This is probably what caused the clip to come out as the lifter was pumped to overfull condition. You may get lucky with a magnet fishing around, but will still have to pull the intake & valley pan to replace the one lifter at least.

Thanks Tom! I figured it was something like that but I couldn't find anything to confirm.
