    Question 72 skylark charging problem

My 72 Skylark was overcharging and burning out the battery. I found that the alternator had an internal voltage regulator and also the voltage regulator on the firewall. I replaced the alternator and the problem subsided, running steady at 12.05, a little low but steady. The next day I went to start the car and everything was dead. Not a click, nothing. I charged the battery overnight and still nothing. Any ideas on the problem, this old mind can’t figure it out?

12.05v is not charging, you need to see minimum of 13.7,...14.2-14.8 is ideal.as for the no-crank,you did unhook the battery before charging right?if not you may have damaged a fuseable link,or the battery is just plain dead from all the abuse.good luckand btw,the plug configuration is totally different between internal & external alternators...they will absoluetlly not fit into each other.

    Thumbs up

Thanks for the reply Jamie, I will check all that you have told me. I really didn't know about the plug configuration. The battery is new and shows fully charged.
