I need help figuring out what size tires will fit on my '68 skylark. I am resurrecting my old high school car but I'm unsure what tire size is supposed to be on it. It had P195 R14's but no profile number. I remember the one's I had on it were almost too big.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks

If you are talking about going retro with bias ply, standard Skylarks and Specials came with 5" wheels and 78 series, 14 inch tires. The GS came with 70 series tires. Optional rims were 6 or 7 inch widths.
I just replaced my original granny steel wheels with rallies and crammed the biggest T/A radial I could find under the wells...225/70R 14". Back in school, when I had less money, I ran blackwall 70 series bias ply tires on rally wheels and looked hot...forget about handling and cornering though! If you want a good combination, go with 15" factory rally wheels and T/A radial performance tires. You won't regret it.
You can go with a 15 inch wheel from the newer bodystyle buicks. Ill post the years when I get back to my notes. Then you can convert your front spindles to factory disc or better. 15s allow you 235-60-15 and 245-60-15 if you want. Disc brake coversion is cheap compared to the kits that people sell.
