Will a 430 intake fit on 455 heads?

    I am planning to use a 69 430 intake on a 72 + 455 heads. Is this any problem?

    430 intake

Yea, there could be a problem. Look closely at the exhaust crossover. The '72 and up heads have a big square cavernous opening and the early heads have two holes or a slot that is much smaller. The early intakes don't have enough metal to cover up the big hole. The ports will line up fine and it will bolt on but you will have a huge exhaust leak. The '72 and up heads also have A.I.R. injection passages in them that are also covered by the big ugly rails cast in the side of the later intakes. These would also leak exhaust gases if not plugged. I would be curious to find out if anyone on this site knows if the early Edelbrock B4B aluminum intake will fit all years of stock heads or if it is a '67 to '70 or '71 item only.

    edl 2515

Well this was found at summit racing looks good for 67-75 years used.

These Edelbrock Buick B-4B intake manifolds are a resurrection of the popular B-4B manifolds made in the late 1960s for street use. The only change to the original design is the addition of Edelbrock's proven Performer-style mounting pad that accepts either square bore or spread bore carburetors. That addition makes these manifolds an excellent choice for both restoration and performance-minded Buick fans.

The remanufactured engine 72+ I am getting comes with a new intake gasket specifically for that engine . Would this not work just as well as using the eidelbrock intake?

The manufacturer says all I have to do is cut out a piece of sheet metal and sandwich it between the intake and head to cover the part of the hole in the head that the intake does not cover.

    I Wouldn't

I don't think the sheet metal plan is gonna work. Chevy guys do this to block off the crossover for performance reasons and usually not on street engines. On the Buick there will not be any thing holding down the upper edge of the sheet metal that is trying to cover the hole. A fairly thick piece of metal might work but any metal thick enough is going to interfere with the ability to properly bolt down the intake. Look on the parts for sale section of this website. There is a guy selling an aluminum Edelbrock intake for the 455. You can see the differences in the two styles. Your 430 intake just has the slot in it that the Edelbrock has and does not have the 2 inches of metal above it. You can see the discoloration on this used intake that he more than likely had it on a '72 and up engine. The gaskets that the re-manufacturer is giving you are correct for your application but are going to do nothing to solve your problem. Even if you solve the crossover problem you will still need to address the problem with the A.I.R. passages. The 430 intake is going to give you more problems than is is worth. I Can't imagine that a stock '72 and up intake is expensive or hard to find. Hell, that used aluminum one listed here ain't that bad of a deal.

I have a fair number of intakes. I may have the correct one for your engine.
