    water pump leak.

    hey guys.
i got a rebuilt water pump. i put it on a week ago, but finally filled it all up and let it flow today.
But it looks like a small leak from where the pulley connects to the pump.
i see it leaking a just a lil down the base of the pump. i didnt take off the pulley to check, i had to get back to my office .
it seems like an odd place, specially for a rebuild.
anything i would have to change inside?
    what the heck?

    Thumbs down

Sounds like a bum rebuild. From your description it seems to be leaking at the shaft seal. Shouldn't do that. Talk to whoever rebuilt the pump.

Before you take it off, let it sit with water in it for a day or two. When my reinstalled my water pump after being dry for 2 months, it leaked for a day then stopped...

yeah, the seals were my concern. i was gonna try some bars leak in a few days. going to let them swell, then see what happens.
    any thoughts on bars leak?

I think you will find bars leak will not work on a water pump seal problem. They are a spring loaded carbon seal just like the ones used in "jet pumps", common water pumps.

With a press and a little engineering, it is possible to replace them yourself as long as you can find a pump person who will take the time to find a good match for you.
