    Correct Buick engine colors?

What are correct colors for Buick engines!

I would like to compile a good list with YOUR help!

Here is a list to start with:
    • 1939-40 Buick Charcoal Gray
    • 1933-38 Buick Green
    • 1922-30 Buick Early Green
    • 1953-65 Buick Late Green
    • 1941 only Buick Early Red
    • 1966-? Buick Late Red
    • 1942-52, & 53 Specials Buick Turquoise

Buick Late Red in 1965 and 1966 was used on all 425s, and 401s in GS optioned Skylarks. From 1967 on it was used on all Buick engines.

Dupont close match for nailheads '53 - '66 is "Hampton Blue", "Deluxe" file no. 73108 .

Please comment on this list and statments!

i have heard on several occasions that the 1970-74 Buick red is darker than the 1966-69 paints.

for sure, the 1975-76 455's are Blue ( presumably "Oldsmobile Blue ) not red at all.

I think the general consensus on the Buick Red after '66/'67 is that Duplicolor DH1608 is the closest readily available match to the stock color.

I thought the '76 455's were standard corporate GM blue??

I read where some '75s were painted in the olds shade of blue, but not '76 ones

As I remember all '65/401/425's were Buick Green/Late. '66/401's were Late Green & Riv's, GS's, & 425's were Buick Red. For '63/425 Riv's were Silver. I don't think 401's were Silver in Riv's. All others were Buick Green Late.

I have a 1952 Buick Special model 48D and the engine is black. I had the head off and got it rebuilt. It appeared to have never been turquoise anywhere. My friend suggested that it could have had a Sears remanufacturered long block installed at some time. He said all sears reman engines were black including the valve cover. I'm willing to paint the engine if it's supposed to be turquoise. Anyone know for sure?

    See previous post above

I spoke with someone at "Bob's Automobilia" and he was pretty sure my motor was a replacement engine from the dealer. He said the replacement motors offered by GM were black and while the dealer could have gone to the trouble of coloring it back to the original turquoise they usually never did.

The 31 Buick had a darker green than the 64 Buick, It was the first year of the dark green and became a standard color. I have seen several unrestored buicks around this era and engine color was not always the same and I do not know why.
