    Question trunk lock doesn't work...76 Electra 225

I am having trouble with the trunk lock on my 1976 Electra 225.
when I insert the key, it will not turn. however, the same key works perfectly in the door locks, and glove box lock. the trunk lock is the original one. what do I need to do to get it to work with the key???

    Trunk Lock

If the lock cylinders are 'one key fits all', try soaking the trunk lock cylinder with some light lubricant to free up the lock cylinder and pins(WD40, or light silicone spray). Allow some time for the lubricant to penetrate.
Older Buicks had two keys - one for ignition, doors, and the other for glovebox, trunk locks.

I'll give the lock a squirt of WD40 and see what happens. the car sat in a locked garage for 10 years, it may simply be stuck. at least it opens with the electric release

    thanks for the info !

    Graphite works well also.
It is a dry type of lubricant.

Sometimes it isn't a key problem.
maybe you have to uses some spray lithium white grease on the latch mechanism.
    Use the penetrating oil first.
You have to get the trunk open first, before you can check the latch (LoL)

try pressing down on the deck lid or use some upward pressure.
It you trunk gaskets are shot, you may have to play with it a bit.
In any event look into getting new trunk weather-stripping so you are able to make the proper necessary adjustments.

last time I had it open (it opens perfectly with the electric release) the weatherstripping was in excellent shape. so I'm thinking it's in the lock itself.
I'll keep tinkering with it, and use the release button to open it for now

    thanks for the info

O.k. that good that you can release the trunk.
Doe that work in a cable release?

Lube the hasp with the white grease.

The key uses a different release point.
Put a paper clip in where key goes to open up the access area and use some compressed air to blow out any dirt or debris that may have accumulated.
When dry before using the penetrating oil. Use a small pick also to clean out
If this was a problem before someone may have used a tooth pick to open that access shield and wood particles my have frayed or broken off inside which prevents the key prom working proplerly.
You won't be able to blow out any dirt or debris if the inside of the lock cylinder is wet with penetrating oil. Everything will get "gunked up'
Do the dry run first and use the graphite which is also dry before you try the wet solution,

it's an all electric release setup,I'll try what you've mentioned, and let you know if I get it to work with the key again
