'57 Buick Master Cylinder & Power Unit

I have to remove the master cylinder on my '57 because it does not function at all. My question is that while I have it off what can I do to check the power brake unit? Is there any way to check if there is a vacuum leak? The engine is still out of the car so I can't check it that way. Is there anything I can do to check the power brake unit without the car running with vacuum etc?? Have any of you worked on the power brake unit or rebuilt it? Any help here would be appreciated. Any advice will be appreciated.

Okay finally got the unit out. Checked all over the place for a rebuild kit for the Bendix Treadle Vac power booster that this auto uses. I had absolutely no luck. Can any of you provide any answers?
P.S. Had to make a tool to get the $@Q** damn 1 3/4" nut off underneath the dash. What a chore!!!

I was told kanter had rebuild kits. I have a 59 and was thinking about rebuilding mine. I opted to put a new smaller unit on the firewall. It works great. TP
