Smile '57 76c turn signal lever issues

Have A "57 76c and the turn signal lever is all over the place, It doesn't work most of the time, Have to feel around to get it to work and then the same to shut it off.
Does anyone know the problem and what part do I need to fix it?

    Thanks,
    Ed

    Wink

    Hey Ed

It sounds like the springs in the steering column have become dislodged or have broken. The spring that keeps the turn handle firm and steady is a flat spring with a dimple in the middle. The dimple locks the handle in place. The other spring is the signal cancel spring. But if the pivot screw has become loose, it can have the same symptoms. The actual switch is on the lower part of the steering column and is connected by a cable. In any case, the steering wheel has to be removed to correctly diagnose the problem. I have a recently restored 57 and had the wheel off and checked
    all of the above items.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

    Jack

Thanks Jack!, I played with it a little more tonight and now it's really bad...lol. But what you told me sounds about right w/ the help of the repair manual.

    Thanks Again
