    V-6 to V-8 Engine Swap

I've been away from Buicks for years...drag raced at Firebird Raceway in AZ in the late 80's to mid 90's. I ran 455's with mostly TA parts I could buy from Mike right in Scottsdale. Our youngest is now gone, and it's possibly time to get hot rodding again! I have a chance at a cream puff 65 Skylark Convertable, with an odd fire V-6 and 2 speed automatic. If, and it's a big IF, (must verify this with the wife) I get back into Buicks again, I can't afford an original BB GS, or even older Nail Head GS. So, my question and solicitation for help becomes.... can I swap a 455 or 401/425 Nail Head into this 65 Shylark Convertable? Can I use the two speed that's there? I understand that I will need to upgrade the rear end, ...I'm looking for a way to much more power, without a full drive train change or fabrication. What can any of you Buick Pro's tell me? What would you do?

I replied to your other thread as well. I think that covers it.

You can put quite a lot of power to your old rear end. I'd be much more worried about your transmission.
I like putting buick engines where they don't belong.

    V6 > power

I put a reply in the other thread. If it is racing you after get a rusty two sedan, as you said the 65 con. is nice. Clean it up, sell it and with the extra money put it in a built race car.

yes, you can make the swap. you'll need big block engine mounts and fan shroud and a much heavier duty trans.

a Nail will not bolt up to the trans.

    another alternative:
look at the new TA catalog. Mike is working on (not yet available) aluminum heads for the Buick 350. that would be a bolt in swap for your car.
