    1959 Factory 3 speed

I know that in 1958 the 3 on the tree was a nearly extinct breed of transmission on the Buicks becuase most had the flight pitch. But my 58's have the dynaflow but my new ride 59 LeSabre has teh factory 3 speed. How rare were they in 59?

Actually, the flight-pitch dynaflow was standard in the 58 limited only, and optional at extra cost (plenty!) in the rest of the line-up. It was optional (at extra cost!) in all 59 Buicks. Twin turbine dyna's were had at little extra cost in the 58-9 models. The 3 spd was standard, and practily nobody went for it! It is, as a result, quite odd. But the flight -pitch, the coolist dyna trans ever, is really rare!! Buick tried to control the stall ratio of the trans by carb linkage, did'nt work. The trans never would "hook-up". Everybody took the trans out, tossed it and put in a twin turbine. It was gone at the end of 59.alleycat

Very few were produced, I,ve never seen one, they probably had to be special ordered, most Buicks arriving at the dealers had the dynaflow or whatever flow was offered then. I had a 59 4 dr. lesabre, and on some bridges or overpasses it would begin undulating like a porpoise, and i think the whole frame was flexing in rythmn with the dips in the pavement, it was really strange.
