    71 Skylark Buick transmission trouble

I've got a TH400 transmission that will not go into gear. It makes a clanking noise while the engine runs, but then stops after a short time. This started when I backed out of my drive way. I tryed to check it out. the Torque converter spins while the engine is idle. I am not an expert on transmissions. So any help will be great, Thanks.

You could have a broken flywheel flex plate . You can jack the car up and remove the flywheel dust cover and inspect . HTH
