2000 Buick park ave Avenue lights flicker when brake

I have a 2000 Buick Park Avenue and the dash lights started to flicker when I hit the brakes today. Then the car took extra long to turn over. then all the dash lights came on, and then went out while I was driving. I do not know what this is. This happened in the past and I needed a new battery.

I would clean battery cables first then get the charging sys. tested . HTH
