    factory drive train.

If I reckon correctly, the dynaslug will rob a lot of the H.P from the engine and make it useless..why a lot of the guys who invest money in there factory kemps upgrade that trans for something with better guts...I've read of a jeep manual box; and even an olds tail will mate to a buick trans..a rear end swap isn't a bad move eather.
I dig that fact of keeping it original, I once thought that way.but if your going to throw bread at it, might as well make it romal meal and make her run at its peak.make the pup run just like it barks..just my 0.02

You can get more power out of a 263, its head is same as the 248. .040" overbore will give you in the neighborhood of 270 CID. All engines respond to basic hop up tricks. Look for a 54 Century to swap gears from. Some of them had 3.41:1 or 3.56: 1 (3.60) ratios. Pay attention to tire diameters when choosing your gear ratios. The better Dynaflow to have is from a 53 Special, it's a twin turbine model. You'll need the matching flex plate to go with that particular tranny and bell housing. The 53 Special's Dynaflow, bell housing, and flex plate are different than all previous applications behind a 248/263 engine. I am told you can use a 56 Dynaflow behind the 53 Special bell housing and flex plate. I haven't confirmed this information. If the tip is factual, and I have no reason to disbelieve my informant, it's the best off all the Dynaflows to use behind a Buick straight 8. Some early 57 Dynaflow trannys may work as well, but the later ones won't. Buick changed the location of the starter ring gear in 57, the torque convertor was changed as well.

    Cool

I have decided to stay with all the original equipment. It is all factory original from 1950 with numbers matching. If it were not, I would upgrade the heck out of it. Since it is all here and factory original, I am going to do everything I can to keep it that way. So far, except for the floor pans, which I can get just a couple hours from here as factory reproductions, everything else looks pretty darn good. I am going to use the Wilwood bolt on disc conversion kit, that way if I decide to sell it for another classic I can put it back to original fairly easily. I can upgrade the engine internals without compromising the originality, so that is what I am focusing on. I know several people have rebuilt engines with upgraded pistons, cams, lifters, and had great success. I am wanting to do the same thing. I know the 248 isn't the best engine, but it is original, so I am keeping it. I know the 1950 Dynaflow isn't the best, but I am keeping it because that is what came with it. I have seen fuel injection upgrades, but I am running carbs. I am going to run triple deuces with progressive linkage. The intake and exhaust manifolds were badly damaged so perfect reason to do custom work. Custom intake and headers. I hat computers and unnecessary electrical, so no modern day updates. I can rebuild and tune carbs without a ridiculously expensive machine to tell me what's wrong. I am trying to find out what internal parts will work well. Can I use stock pistons with a slight milling, upgraded cam, and my custom headers and intake and get a good daily driver? I toy with a lot of ideas on the engine, like running a large 2 barrel for the main and two smaller 2 barrels for the secondaries. Well, back to research. On a happy note, I took wife for a nice excursion to Maggie Valley, NC, Cherokee, NC, and Pigeon Forge, TN. We stopped at the Wheels through Time museum. They had hundreds of old motorcycles, and a few old classic cars. A late 20's or early 30's Lincoln convertible and Packard convertible, and a V-16 Cadillac. They were so awesome. Had no idea they were so BIG!!!!! I saw a couple old 1912 model A's and they were half the size of these monsters. I thought they were all smaller. Just got my fever pumping that much more!!!!!

It woudnt hurt to upgrade you drums and backing plates to say..I.e. a 54 roadmster..there a lot beefier (2"+)..coudnt change much looks there..they look identical from any eyes view..better stoping power, they were intended to bring a 322 to a stop.

Well, the time has come again. We are loading the Lakester into the trailer for Speed Week tomorrow. Lots of changes this year looking to crack 260 mph. this year. We will cover the rear wheels for World of Speed the following month. More camshaft, roller rockers, Winters Xtremeliner rear end with 2.19 gears, to keep the old engine loaded and pulling, Double the intercooler size. Should be an interesting ride.
