Its called Preignition. You can buy better gas, or adjust timing. You can do a search on timing as there are several good posts on the subject. Basically, you get rid of the ping and run the same gas you are using you will have to move timing back.
I Always Hear A Ping Nise When I Acclerate. After I Am Moving At Higher Speeds I No Longer Hear It. What Could This Pinging Sound Be?

G,
You really need to give us more information about your car. Year ? Model ? Engine ? etc. Most new cars are designed to run on regular unleaded fuel. If you are getting a pinging sound with a car designed to run on regular, something is wrong. There are many things that can cause the problem and it is very difficult to diagnose without having the vehicle to look at.
One thing to be sure of ..... if you keep driving it that way it WILL cause engine damage eventually. It sould be something as simple as a bad batch of fuel, or it could be something in the fuel or ignition systems. It could also be carbon buildup in the engine. Could be the egr valve. Only way to really find out is to do a series of tests to determine what the problem is.
