    1956 rear glass question...HELP!!

hi there... i need some clarification....i found a piece of rear glass for a 1956 special 4-door hard top. I have a 56 roadmaster that is a 4-door hardtop......does anyone know if this glass will fit my car, the seller said it will, but i am hesitant to buy if it wont fit. If anyone one can help it would be much appreciated.

the only true way would be to take some true measurments.

Roadies were a "C" body and were longer and wider than a Specials "B"body

According to my "Standard Catalog of Buick 1903-2000" the 1956 Special 4-Door Hardtop is a Model 43 (Body Style 56-4439). The 1956 Roadmaster 4-Door Hardtop is a Model 73 (Body Style 56-4739).

My Hollander Interchange book lists the rear window glass for the Model 43 as an interchange index 1090. The Model 73 is an interchange index 1093.

Refering to those codes the 1090 is common between the 1955 and 1956 Model 43 (Special 4-dr HT), the 1955 and 1956 Model 63 (Century 4-dr HT). Hollander also shows that this rear glass window was also used in the 1955 and 1956 Oldsmobile 4-dr Holiday Sedans.

Based on the Hollander information I would say that the glass won't work.

I meant to add Hollander lists the following rear glass as interchangable with the 1956 Model 73.

    Buicks
    1954, 1955, and 1956 Model 56R - Super 2-dr HT Coupe
    1954, 1955, and 1956 Model 76R - Roadmaster 2-dr HT Coupe
    1954, 1955, and 1956 Model 76RX - Roadmaster 2-dr HT Coupe
    1956 Model 53 4D Riv Sedan - Super 4-dr HT
    1956 Model 73 4D Riv Sedan - Roadmaster 4-dr HT
    Cadillac
    1954, 1955, and 1956 Model 62 Coupe (excelpt convertable)
    1956 Model 62 4D Hardtop

Guess the old saying "buyer beware" applies. As Tom said measure but depending on how you measure even then you might get a false sense of security.

    Good luck.

Usually The Larger "C" Body parts Don't mix well with the Smaller "B" Body.

    The Dashes are totally different.

    Hood and Fenders?

The Deck lid is Totally different.
