I do not know about a replacement tank, but I have a guy that can repair your existing tank. He has done 3 for me for cars that I have restored. The cost is very high (500+), but the quality is great. Even if your tank is thin or holed, he can repair it to like new. Let me know if you are interested and I will post his company address.

thanks for the offer. I need to evaluate the condition of my tank first. In the next few weeks I should be able to drop the tank. I might be able to have it overhauled locally too.

Yeah, I just double-checked on Tanks, Inc...you want the B-1 Buick tank, for '50-'53 Buicks. That's the one I'm ordering for my special, and it should work for your super. Cost is $250.

Tanks, Inc. also makes new fuel-tank senders to work with their tanks.

    Check out their website: www.tanksinc.com

Or, if you want an NOS-style sending unit, Cars, Inc. sells one.

snake-man, ya think that fuel tank will work with a 49? it looks like it would. it says it works with other 40-50's GM's. but since you seem to like that place, thought you might know.

I'd think it would. I guess the thing to do would be take the measurements off the '49 and match 'em with the one they have advertised. They also sell a tank for a '49 Chev, and GM loved interchanging parts, so a '49 Chevy tank is not that different from a '49 Buick tank. They also sell universal tanks if you want to go that route.
