    52 Synchro Leak

I have a 52 Super with a transmission leak (actually "pour") from the selector shaft on the driver side. Can this be repaired without removing the transmission? Can I pull the transmission by disconnecting the drive shaft and pulling the whole rear end back? I don't want to pull the engine *again*. My other option is to cut a hole in the floorpan to get to the top of the tranny where the plate can be removed, and thus get into the ****** and remove the selector shaft.

    Thanks!

You can pull the tranny from underneath as you describe. Just make sure to support the rear of the engine!

    Lightbulb Transmission access solution

Thought I'd go ahead and follow up on my original post.

Since my car is a resto-rod, I decided to cut a hole in the floor pan over the transmission. Then I can open the top of the tranny up to get to the selector shaft. Thiis also provides a convenient way of refilling the transmision. I'll cut new sheet metal and cover the hole, attaching with caulk and 4 sheet metal screws. This will allow transmission work to be done in the future much easier than dropping it out of the car. Also, it's kinda cool watching the gears change when you move the shift lever on the column!
