on my 49 my VIN is on the driver side on the metal framing for the windsheild. it is short and all numbers. i think 7 numbers.its about 3"X1". exact location is hard to explain. but its near where the roof starts from the post.
I have a 1947 Buick and seem to have a serial number problem ( I think) There is a body tag on the right cowling that has a lot of information about the body, but but no vehicle ID number.
The title for the car has a number that starts with 49 and I found this number stamped on the frame on the left side, but it looks hand stamped. Is this right? shouldn't there be a tag on the cowling somewhere? Any help will be appriciated. This car was in storage for 20 years and the man I bought if off knows nothing.

On my 2dr 47 model 46S, the serial number is on a plate about one-half inch high and about the same width as the body specification plate you described. The ID plate is also on the cowling about an inch above the body plate.
Do you know anyone with a 1947 46S? I need some pictures of the trunk lip and floor so I can rebuild mine. It is rusted away.
