    Question Just getting started

    Hello all,

Just bought my first Buick. 1957 Special with 28,000 original miles. The car is in very nice condition having been stored indoors for 30 years. The engine hasn't run since 1975. I know i'm going to have to do a lot of work to make it roadworthy. The body and frame are sound and in good condition. This car is 100% original. Complete with all stickers and tags and even has the original fanbelt and spare tire. I would appreciate any tips to get started.

My biggest concern is the good old Dynaflow. I know it calls for type "A"
trans fluid. Yeah, right! Try and find that in your local Auto Zone.

Other concerns are, gaskets, seals, weatherstripping etc.

    Thank you,

    Jack (jakphlash)

i THINK, you can still get it at select napa/carquest if your lucky...but ive also been told, dont know if its true or not, that you can use dex3 with it.
However, like i said, im not sure, thats just what ive heard, never owned a dynaflow personally. Good luck~ sounds like fun project

Go ahead and use the Dexron as it works fine but for a car that has sat that long add one of the transmission stop leak and conditioners that are available at most auto parts stores. They all seem to be about the same so any brand will work but I try to use the same brand as the fluid.

    GETTING sTARTED

    Hey Jakphlash

I see that You are a NEW MEMBER

    WELCOME ABOARD

Lucky for You, You have come to the RIGHT PLACE!

The '57 Body Style is one of My Personal Favorates

Use the Newest Dextron and one quart of Motor OIL

The newer Dextron is a bit drier and the Dynaflow needs a substitute quart of oil for additional lubrication.

This is what I have been told by a mechanic who worked at a Buick Dealership for 15 years in the late 50's into the 70's

It's worked fine for myself and some other members.

Recently another Member (Alleycat) Mentioned something about installing an inline filter with is a subject I'm interested in obtaining more information.

    Regards,
