    66 Skylark GS Radiator woes.....

    Hi folks,

I need to replace the radiator in my 66 GS w/ 401 and in my shopping I have found replacement(s) which state they will fit in said vehicle.

However, the illustrations show the tranny cooling lines on the passenger side and the hoses routed differently.

In my 66 Buick service manual it shows two different types, the 43-44000(same as the replacements I've found) and the 44600(visually correct to what I have).

Anyone have a similar situation that may offer some guidance on where to go from here?

BTW - The current radiator appears to be the incorrect size based on mounting, alignment, etc.. Also, the shroud appears to be the incorrect one also (the previous owner used wire to hold it in place and it has rubbed the fan and worn through in some places, BUT, the water pump is facing the drivers side...)

    Arrrrgh!

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Radiator

    Eric:
My 66 GS has a cross flow radiator. 65GS had a cross flow but all non GS cars were vertical flow. I think that even in 66 some non GS cars were vertical flow.
Is that what you are seeing when you look up application?

    Eric,

Your transmission lines should be on the drivers side. You could have your current radiator re-cored if it is the correct size. A local radiator shop should be able to do it for you.

This is the radiator that I found that doesn't seem to jive.

    I'm still stumped

That is the radiator for the Skylark. The trans lines and outlets are reversed from that of the GS Skylark. The 65-66 GS has the lower water outlet on the driver side and the upper outlet on the passenger side.

Any ideas on factory spec replacements?

I'd like to keep as close as possible and the cost within reason....

    Thanks.

    Radiator identification tag/stamp?

I removed the radiator andthe only identifying mark is a tab on the front with the code "10805304"

Does this correlate to a factory model or is this an aftermarket radiator?

Also, the 66 Buick service manual lists 43000, 44000, 45000, 46000, 48000 and 49000 models. The 49000 is the only one that appears to have the hose routing and TM cooling lines in the right place.

    Please help.
