    340 rebuild

I have a 340 that is being rebuilt, my question is this: The cylinders will be bored to the same size as a 350 and the cam will be a 350 cam, can the same harmonic balancer and flywheel be used that was used with the 340 pistons????

the cam will be a 350 cam

so you're using heads and intake from a 350? and headers, you can't use the exhaust manifolds from the 340 on a 350 head.

not only does the 340 use different size cam bearings than the 350 ( specifically to prevent someone accidentally swapping cams between the two motors ) but they have different intake and exhaust valve arrangements. the valve order arrangement is where you're really going to run into trouble.

the easiest way to see this is on the exhaust side. a 340 has four discrete exhaust pipes on the manifold while on a 350 the center exhaust pipes are siamesed.

I don't think you can use a 350 cam in a bored out 340 as the valve placement in the heads are different ( the order in which the intake and exhaust valves are ). Stick with the harmonic balancer for the crank you are using.
