    Rebuilding 57

Hi, im rebuilding a 57 buick sedan, I am currently putting the heads together and in the gasket set came new valve seals but iv read in the manual that they only fitted these parts on the inlet valves due to a dealer letter when they were using oil before 3000kms.
Can anybody shed some light on this for me? This is my first buick rebuild.

Hi Jason. I have a 58 buick and have been through the engine some time ago. However, Ive done a lot of head work to buicks as well as other makes and I've found that irresspective of make, you absolutly want valve seals on the intake for sure. Possiably exhaust. Buicks tend to have more clearence in the guides than others. Todays gas is very different than 50 years ago, so don't tighten up the clearence, very bad things can happen. So, put a seal on it, the umbrella type, the PC type seal won't work (been there, done that), otherwise the oil will pour through the guide and you won't like that either. Alleycat
