    looking for 248 straight 8

I am looking for a running 248 for my 1940 Buick Super. I would really appreciate any information on locating one and what they are worth.

My engine is frozen. I have tried PB Blaster, Marvel Mystery Oil, transmission fluid, and Coke. With the spark plugs out and the car in either first or third gear, I have tried pulling it with another car, and the back tires just drag. I also try to turn the front of the engine with a breaker bar.

Rather than buy another engine, which will probably need a rebuild, why not pull yours and rebuild it?? Even if you have to drive the pistons out, you can rebore .

I cannot do it myself. I will try to find a garage that does it, and get an estimate. I didn't think mechanics did that anymore. I thought they just installed remanufactured engines.

    Old guy,
Were you at the Sloan Autofest this weekend? I was there Sunday--my car was the light blue '53 Special...

Wildcat68, I really appreciate that offer, but it is too far for me to travel. I am in Central Florida, probably 1000 miles away.

Pull it out and go through the engine. That way you know what you have.

Once you get it apart you can see which piston is frozen in the cylinder and if necessary, beat it out. Sometimes, time is your friend and just letting it soak frees it up. Pull the heads and fill the cylinder full of Marvel Mystery oil. Let is sit for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

Affsheen52, Where are you? Harry at 727-787-6392

I think I will wait another week and let my strange brew of transmission fluid , PB Blaster, Marvel Mystery Oil and Coke do a little more work. I have had little luck finding someone who would rebuild this old engine.

I don't need it to be like new. I just want it to be capable of moving on occassion.
