Was it just not there when you bought the car? And how does that happen???

Good question.... the car ran when I bought it but I wasn't driving it because it needed brake work. Then, a couple of weeks ago the engine started making a really bad noise and I figured something inside had broken. Finally got around to pulling the cover off, and that is what I found. I don't know much about engines, but I knew that didn't look right.
Wonder what I'll find when I pull the oil pan......
Try pulling the side cover for the tappets first to see what you find in there...Eek!

It seem like intake side. maybe it has never been there for a reason... eg piston is bad or even there is only piece of wood and lacking piston entirely.
The most probable cause is an intake valve that is stuck open allowing the pushrod to slip off and fall into the side cover area.

Hello!
That happend to my roadmaster -47.
When trying to start my car, I pushed the starter/gas pedal to many times!
It went flooded and the whole combustion chamber went full of gas, and by compession the pushrod went off and fell down in to the engine!
I got it out whit a pair of long pliers.
and now I have a straight seven cylinder buick
Does anyone have 1 pushrod for sale?
Here in Sweden they seem pretty hard to get!
