The rear crossmember on my 52 is very straight however the one in my 53 is bent from having a trailer hitch welded to it. I checked the one on my 62 frame that is going under my 53 and it is also straight.
I am in the process of doing a frame off on my '50 special. Upon pulling the body I noticed that the very last cross support on the frame has some bends in it and is not completely straight (almost looks like it should be like that). Here is my question is that cross support suppose to be perfectly straight or is there a slit bend to it? If it is suppose to be straight any comments on fixing it, short of fabricating a new piece?? To specify which support I am talking about it is the one that runs along the rear edge of the trunk and has 2 body mount bolts in it, the very last suppoort which holds the frame rails together.
thanx

Jim,
Thanx for the info, last night I actually saw another one at a local show, and low and behold there was a slight bend in that cross member as well. Talk to the owner and he told me it had never been in accident to his knowledge. So once again I guess the '50 is odd ball out.
thanx again
