Forgot to tell that the wire to the HEI is coming out the fuse box... right in the middle of the fusebox there is a place where there is only 12V when the ignition is turned on

what is the 12V "run" labeled on the fuse block?

I was looking at my 1974 manual and found in the run mode ign1 and ign3 are connected to +12V. The only problem is that ign1 changes to a resistance wire at the firewall. Some electronic dist instructions say to get the 12V from the starter solenoid, but I think that would only be active during the "start" mode when the solenoid plunger/gear goes out and connects full battery power to the starter. After the plunger/gear returns, I assume 12V is disconnected from "S". From "R" is a wire from the seatbelt interlock.

To me it's easiest to run my own 12V fused wire to a switch in the car, which I could turn on and off to the new HEI

BTW: I bought an accel billet 'ready to run' with an electronic module and an external jacob's 65,000V Ultra Coil.

on M '76 Riv, I updated the original with an Accel HEI cap and rotor, a high-current, long dwell ignition module and a Brute Thunder hi-output coil and 300+ plug wires and R45TS plugs gapped at 0.060".
