Yes, but the clearance is to allow them to sit on a film of oil and to allow for expansion etc. so that they don't fit too tight.
Hi guys,
this message board is SUPER and exactly what i need when rebuilding the 455 engine.
Later this week i will rebuild my oil pump and i have a question about that.
Stephen's book talks about the max. clearance for the gears to the pumpcover. I've bought new gears, thrustingplate, and a shim kit.
But i have one question: the clearance he writes about is the clearance between the pumpcover and the gearwheels, but doesn't gravity pull these gears down to the cover/thrustingplate at all times?
I can measure the appropriate gasket to put in place, but when i mount everything, won't the gears just fall down on the thrusting plate?
I could use some help on this one.
Thanks in advance,
Sjoerd
