    Ticking 300

    Hey all,
My 300 runs fine but has a ticking noise under acceleration only. It sounds like an exhaust leak, but I've had the exhaust matched up and the manifolds milled and I tried gaskets on them but the noise stayed largely the same. It almost sounds like it may be coming from the intake manifold area, but it's hard to tell because it's a telegraphing noise. Could the exhaust crossover area be causing this? My heat riser valve has been gutted and the holes welded, but the heat riser area has not been blocked. I'm about out of ideas. It doesn't sound like a motor knock or a lifter, and I've been running it for 15,000 miles like this...I just would like to get rid of the noise! Any ideas?

    ticking

Aaron, You haven't pissed off any Italians or Hells Angels, have you? Looked for taped packages? Seriously, My exhaust manifold had a leak and that was the sound also. Maybe a little soapy water around that exhaust area before you start it up might bubble for you. Or having a friend plug the tail pipe while you are looking might change a tone or level and help in locating the source. Does the sound change with rpms? ~T~

Tbone--I'm going to start checking my mail from now on! Ah, the ticking's been with the car since I owned it (3 years)...at least the car's running OK since I replaced the power steering pump last weekend. My Buicks ganged up on me last week! The ticking does get faster with revs...it sounds like it's on the left side of the motor. It almost sounds higher up, but it's only under acceleration...I'm really questioning the heat crossover for some reason. The PO had the heads off because he broke an exhaust manifold stud (I've already put new manifolds on because an old one cracked)...so who knows? I can't feel any leaks, but it's harder because I have to brake torque the car to make it click. I think I'm also going to pull a rocker cover to peek under there just in case...I'll keep everyone updated if I find anything!
