First thing to do is to trace the wire back as far as you can to make sure someone didn't splice in some improper wire.
Someone had done this on my 63 Nova. They spliced in a section of smaller...
My book shows production # of 11,401 for a '57 series 73. Price base was $4,053.00.
Never seen one, but I'd be happy to try it out if you want to send it my way.
I think I've got it running pretty smooth now anyway, thanks.
Is your heat riser flap on the exhaust manifold operating correctly? If it's stuck open it can cause that vapor lock too.
Probably isn't an "easy" way, but a heat gun may make it go faster with that putty knife. And it will smell more.
That's what I would think, but the manual isn't real clear about that. It says to run the car for 20 min. @ 700rpm, drop the idle to 350-400rpm, remove rocker cover and start checking lash.
I...
Has anybody actually had success adjusting the lash while the motor is running? Trying to make micro adjustments on bouncing ball studs seems impossible. I warmed it up per the manual then shut it...
Buying an "incomplete, half-taken-apart resto or Custom project" can be a disaster. You never know what's missing and you don't know what materials were used or if they were used properly. People...
Mechanical, solid, plain sleeve... yes.
Hi Bob, actually they are brand new from EGGE. Did you see my other question/thread about the intake/exhaust gaskets? I'm not sure what to use.
After putting everything back together with the new valves, springs ect., there is no gap at all while cold. To get the .017 feeler gauge to go through, I have to adjust each ball stud about 1.5...
Thanks Straight Eight
Everything is apart and cleaned and is ready to go back together. It wasn't leaking before I took it apart, but the heat riser flap was frozen and destroyed.
Here's a link...
Also, I have the gasket that goes between the exhaust manifold and the heat riser. The manual says there is also supposed to be one on the pilot ring. I don't have this one, is it necessary?
I just found more gaskets.
I have a set of steel reinforced rubber type that are split into 3 pieces for intake and exhaust when combined.
I also bought a complete set of gaskets for the...
By the way Bob... do you have the whole 1952 shop manual scanned and on file? If so could you post or email me the index? My shop manual only came with every other page of the index and as you could...
My shop manual clearly states that an intake gasket is used and that...
"Exhaust manifold gaskets are not used. In production, a special compound is used at joints between manifold and cylinder...
I was under the impression I needed to make an initial adjustment to rough them in before I ever started the motor, in case some are too tight. I was planning on turning the motor by hand and making...
I forgot to mention... solid lifters.
I do restorations for a living and I agree with Bob. Especially in todays market. There are great deals to be had. Restorations are very expensive. Most people don't understand how much work is...
So I've got the head back on the 52 special, and it's got all new valves, guides and springs. While the rocker assy was off I cleaned it up as well.
What is the procedure for adjusting the valve...
I pulled the head off over a year ago and found it needed all new valves and springs, guides and seats.
I finally have all the parts and I'm in the process of cleaning everything up and...
Thanks Aaron. Having to jack up the motor to pull the oil pan would be pretty poor design, but you never know.
I'm not looking forward to this. The underside of this motor is FILTHY.
You may need to try to find a donor car or piece it together from multiple salvage yards. You can try Wheatbelt Buick...

How much of a pain is it to pull the oil pan on a '52 with a 263. Can all of the bolts be gotten out easily or does the engine need to be lifted up a bit to gain acess to all the front bolts. It...
