Hi
I got a Buick roadmaster -48 with Dynaflow that got a whining/howling sound from the rear when driving.
You can hear it under partial load and it peaks around 50 MPH. If you either starts to...
That is true for most modern push rod engines. But the straight 8 had flat lifters and flat cam lobes. There was no slope on the cam lobe.
Hand sanding was the idea by the company who made the the...
Smith Brothers made me 16 custom length pushrods for 160 USD including shipping to Nevada.
I sent them and old one and they measured the cup and ball for me. Made of 4130 Steel which is harder than...
As I wrote in the first post D.elgin fixed both the cam and the lifters. What I am talking about here is doing a slight resurfacing using a 220 grit paper doing eight movement to make sure they are...
Confirmed with D.Elgin, they have not tapered the lobes.
So either its doing one more try with the existing cam profile, just resurfacing the lifters a bit by hand. Or redoing the cam with the...
At least some of the non-rotating ones do fall down by themselves, not at the same speed as a normal freefall but it does fall down.
By design all lobes got an offset compared to the lifters, some...
Emailed with d.elgin today and they asked me to take the lifters out and take a photo on the surface. Then they would analyze the cam/lifter interface.
But any advice on how to make them rotate...

Nice,
I have not really calculated on my 320 rebuild and I have not received the invoice for the boring etc. But if you include sourcing a new(used) crank, a set of connecting rods, the 1941 dual...
If you buy a NOS chain it will have links that are copper plated (10 links in between) that matches up with the marks on the gears. The repop ones does not have that.
Really interesting to see the difference in labor cost between countries.
For example here in Sweden the standard cost for boring 8 cylinders would be close to 500 usd. Regrind of crankshaft 400...
Just in progress of putting by 320 together again after the rebuild. Its crazy how much money I have put into it:
New parts(repop or nos): Bearings, pistons and rings, camchain, oil pump gears,...
Went with the 0.020 on my build to. Egge told me that they were able to got 0.010 but after waiting for some time I got tired of it and went with what they had. I will machine my crank anyway.
Hi,
I think I read here in a thread that the Timing chains and sprockets from Egge are of bad quality(like the lifters) and are not recommended.
What are the alternatives? Im currently rebuilding...
Hi,
I think it would be easier for you to make your own block off plate then trying to locate one that fits good.
Create a template out of paper.
My -48 got static lifters. From what I have heard its all lifters or at least the solid ones.
My engine is a -48 so the mains are insert bearing :). My crankshaft was however in bad shape and I had to locate a replacement that costed me 700 dollar + another couple of hundreds for other rods...
Elgin is currently working on my cam and them seems to know exactly what they are doing.
I sent in all my lifters to them and after their test they found out that two were too soft, and the managed...
I got the 49-50 rods in my 48, but before I found that out I asked Egge and got the following answer:
"Thank you for your inquiry regarding connecting rods for your Buick 320 engine. There are two...
Got the below picture from Dale at Dale Manufacturing showing the inside of a Harmonic Balancer from a -48 320.
Might be worth posting here.

Sounds like the plan then :)
