If you do so, I m afraid the intake, and so the carb, will alway receive the blast from the exhaust, and cause vaporlock.
Of course I will use a press, not a hammer :P
At work, I ve often removed 2 or 3 feet diam pulley, so I know how this work :P ( we even work with 5 feet gears )
I don t know yet where t find a...
As I plan to engine the engine working again, on a stand, on winter, I d like to rebuild the water pump.
What s the correct way ?
It seems I must first remove the impeller, but I m afraid to break...
Luckilly, the riser is stuck in the "open" position.
But I d like to free it.
It s now soaking again with PB Blaster , I ll let it a few days and then try hamerring on the side of the shaft....
The engine is a 1951 263 .
What I think is called heat riser is stuck.
Not sure about the right term, it s the thing giving heat to the intake under the carb, with a spring, until the engine is...
Great noise ! I love it :)
What about the butt dyno ?
Jenz, I didn t know you re a member here.
It s a small world :)
If you really don t trust in yourself in electricity, sometimes it s safer to pay.
Burning a car is easy :)
The solenoid need ground and +12 ( +6 ? ) to work.
So, maybe the coil inside is not connected to the ground internally, or it is connected but there s also a spare connector ( it s the case on my 79...
If this help ..
This is from my 263. I m not sure about the year, because it s a canadian and the stamping is not the same as the US.
I was told it s a 1951.

This gives axial work on the valve stem ...
In case we replace the original valves with modern one with a thinner stem, could this bend without using rollers ?
I had already seen this picture. It always make me laugh :P
No offense .
It was a nice try :P
This remind me of the old Scifi books from 1950.
"The piston from Outerspace"
Maybe it s just me, but I don t like the idea of overboring.
They are old engines. Just bored once or twice every 20 years keep them alive.
More and we need sleeves .
Let s say 1 HP / CID , or...
I hope the .3ds will be open source . So we can all print cores in 3D and have it cast in any foundery :P
In this case, electrolysis is difficult to use, because rust is inside the head, hidden.
Removing the external rust is easy, just put anodes around. Using them inside for better results may be...
Whatever the metal used, you always have shrinkage. The first goal is to have a pattern quite right enought to be machined.
I just know for alu it s about 1/8 per foot. For a 33 long head it s 3/8,...
Right ... Air pockets may be an issue ... The main problem in fact.
Let give 10 tries, one will be good. Cost ? About nothing.
But considering the poor stock head and anything else, it may a worth...
Maybe not 4 valves, just 2 per cylinder.
Just 8 intakes runners would be a great improvement for the straight Buick .
They managed to do this in the 30 s . With sand , clay and iron .
I can t...
I read, and am a poor mechanic. With poor knowledge comparing to many here .
But just ideas.
Since more than 1 century, heads, and in fact any engine part have been made by casting.
Made of iron...
Molasses work very well to remove rust. It just takes time.
I m not sure , but it seems to me that the ceramic heater on the 258 AMC is just for when the engine is cold. They are also water heated, but the electric heater is used first.
Does the heat have to be controled ? Can it be too hot ?
I m currently building an intake for another car ( 6 cylinders 232 Rambler), and I plan to weld some pipe under the aluminium intake to heat,...
