Sounds like you need to do a compression test ....and report back the results .... also take a vacuum reading and give that reading as well.

Check for vacuum leaks and take a vacuum reading with a gauge ( 16 to 18 in. at idle ) If you have good vacuum and no check eng. light on I would suspect bad fuel ( water or trash ) drain the fuel...
