I sounds like there is an ehaust leak when the motor is cold, and a lot more steam comes out the driver's side pipe, but when the motor is warm there doesnt seam to be a leak.

Have you checked all wires and grounds to ensure proper connections? Also recheck your fuses.

I should have noted that when the sending unit did work the gauge would move go back and forth between 1/4 and 1/2 when I would have about 1/2 tank of gas.

The V8 is stiffer than the V6. The suspension on the V6 is too soft in my opinion.
