Almost everything is different between S-8 and V-8 at the front end of the Dynaflow. If you are going to mix any parts it will have to be at the rear end of the case.
In other words, you will...
Send your appraiser over to the craigslist car before it gets away. If it is anywhere near as good as it looks in the pics, that one will go pretty fast. At $22K, the ebay car isn't going any...
Does your pump have identified inlet and outlet connections? If yes, connect the inlet to the booster and the outlet to the intake manifold (or carb) wherever the booster originally connected. You...
It looks like it was a Rochester 2GC.

I have never seen a 4 door seat back that would lean forward. Some AMC models used to have seat backs that would lean backward until they were horizontal to make a bed.
Ray
2 door sedan and hardtop will fit front and rear. Convertible will fit front only. 4 door rear can be used, but cushion will have rounded front corners.

I'm glad to hear that this modification solved the problem for you. Thank you very much for your feedback.

Chuck, thank you for explaining. Now the combination makes more sense. You had the 56 engine and you needed to mate it with an open drive trans.
Buick powered vintage rods aren't terribly...
What kind of car are you running this engine/trans combo in?
Are you saying that this setup was together and driving at some point since you have owned it? Then you took it apart for service and...
The bellhousing bolt pattern changed between 56 and 57. Not sure what you would have in there for starter, flywheel, converter. Could be all 56 stuff or a mixture. Sorry I can't offer more help.

That is because it was owner-installed. It is not a factory part. Given the angle on the tubing, it wouldn't be possible to drain the oil by gravity, but it might work with a suction pump.
Ray
So what is the bore and stroke, and what kind of dyno readings are you getting?
Ray
All of the issues you mentioned except for the whirring noise are symptoms of a too-slow idle speed. If the engine has a throttle slow-closing device (also called a dashpot), it may be inoperative...
The wheel bolt circle on your Buick Special is 4-1/2". Early 4 bolt Mustangs also used 4-1/2", but they were not available with disc brakes. The later 4 bolt Mustangs with disc brakes had a 4-1/4"...
Two different 4 door bodies were used on Roadmasters in 50. You could have either a model 71 or a model 72, and they definitely have different rooflines and glass.
Ray
First thing to check would be the kickdown linkage. Then the governor.
Ray
I would expect the glass to be the same for the same body style across the years 50-53. However, it definitely does look like the 2 door fastback roof is lower than then others, so the glass would...
That's probably the best plan if you can't look at the car personally. I figured there would have to be companies which did that kind of inspections.
Ray
45 mph is probably about right with your foot on the floor. At light throttle, I would expect about 15-20 mph.

If you are willing to use an adapter, almost any GM trans is doable. My first choice would be a 200-4R because of its relatively small size and low weight.
If you don't want an adapter, look at...
It sounds like the carb is going dry while it's sitting. You could install an electric fuel pump which would fill the carb before you crank the engine and thus save wear on the starter, battery, and...
A repro VIN tag would probably be illegal. I think you can do firewall tags without any hassle from the law, but collectors don't like the idea.
Ray
That car is beautiful! Is it a 3-tone, or is the roof the same color as the lower body?
Ray
Does your rear end have a drop-out center section? If yes, earlier center sections back to about 1961 can be made to work with some modification. 63-64 will be friendlier than 61-62.
If you have...
