Just remove the portion of fins that hit the intake. When the intake is installed it can't be seen.
Brian,
Of ALL the reply's on V8 I don't understand????
ALL "Nail" distributor are INTERCHANGEABLE. So you could go the more modern route & install a "windowed" distributor from a '57-'66 "Nail". Much easier to find parts for & much easier to upgrade to...
I don't have one, but if you find one & need it rebuilt I CAN do that.

This has been discussed MANY times on V8buick.com Originals are going for pretty good $$$. There is an alternative. Not original, but OK.
You can swap oil pans & exhaust manifolds. They will bolt right on. Your going to have to make your own pick-up tube as the oil pumps are of a slightly diff. design & mounting.
BEFORE throwing $$$ away replacing parts DO COMPRESSION & LEAK DOWN TESTS TO CONFIRM THE HEALTH OF YOUR ENGINE. Then we can go from there.

The original '54 cam was steel & had a matching gear on the distributor. A stock '56 cam was cast iron & the steel gear on the cast iron cam will wear the cam gear in short order. Then you will have...
Year, make, model & whats the number on the AFB???? The carb. number is below the right front bolt that holds the carb. onto the manifold. The base needs to be in reasonably good condition & NOT...
A bad dual filament bulb. What happens is one of the filaments has broken & is laying over the other. Very common problem.
They make an inexpensive tool for that. It would be best to know year, make & model.
The mesh in the valley pan is plugged up, reason no smoke coming out of draft tube. I ALWAYS install PCV valves even if they didn't come equipped with them. Keeps under hood cleaner from no oil mist,...
Welcome from Ct. Pat
Go to a glass shop in your area. They may be able to buy the glass cheaper & also save some on shipping. They may also have a source closer to them for a savings. Got to start thinking outside the...
Thanks Ben for the thumbs up. Unless you chain the chevy mounts they break MUCH TOO EASILY.
Mike,
Put the seal in the mail yesterday, 3/31/18. Should receive it by Tues. 4/3/18. Please let me know when it arrives & if you understand the directions??
If you find the rear of the head...
Kiwijeff,
I have MINI-STARTERS for the "Nail" that are MUCH SMALLER than stock & weigh 6lbs. 12 ozs. Others sell mini's also but I AM the originator & MINE FIT & work properly in the GS. That's...
I have 2/57's. One a 4dr. hdtp. & the other a 4dr. sedan wagon. Both somewhat complete. NO bumper ends, but many other parts.
In my mind keeping a Buick ALL Buick would be my goal. If you take an open drive '61-65 Full size car or a '63-'70 riv. & put both your car & the donor car on a lift next to each other you will be...
check the dash board ground.
I have the modern neoprene seals in stock for the 322's. Also for the front seal. Comes with directions & the sealer I use. If installed properly & the crank sealing area is in good condition this...
The cancel springs are probably broken. Available at just about any parts store under the HELP line.
The later aluminum rockers are ALL 1.6 ratio & fit ALL "nails". Usually adds about 10HP.
If it's actually on the chrome you could probably chip it off with your fingernail.
