It takes 50hp just to turn a TH400. Unless you have a big block, stick with a switch pitch or TH350, unless you want to slow down?

WTB 3.36:1 ring and pinion for BOP 8.2 10 bolt rear end.

My son and I have a plan to improve his 64 skylark 300 2bbl. The engine already has the aluminum heads and they will get the larger 340 valves. We also have the factory aluminum intake and Carter...
The 300 valves are smaller in diameter than those in a 340. However, 340 valves can be placed in a 300 by enlarging the seats by grinding them. :shifter:
I did some checking in the tech archives on a Pontiac site and it appears it could be a 79 & up Firebird bell. Apparently bells up to 78 had 2 hole patterns for different trannys and only 1 pattern...
Rcull, good info in that post, but not what I need. The correct bell, that I now have, has the clutch fork above the starter bulge on the driver's side(in the 9 o'clock position). The bell I want to...
I've got a BOP bellhousing that I thought would work on my 64 Olds F-85.....wrong! The clutch fork is below the starter. The casting number is #1249599,.........any ideas???????
Thanks...
Matt. I have a 340 manifold on the shelf, hot tanked and ready to go for $50 + S&H.

My son(64 skylark) and I (64 olds f-85) were both in need of new battery hold downs. I happened to be browsing in a Ames Performance Engineering Pontiac Catalog (yes, my other car is a Pontiac) and...
bluewhale13, you mentioned new performance parts for a 300; could you elaborate on that. I have current plans for a 300 on the stand that include a .050" oversiize bore(Buick 350 pistons), install...
Ben, I just happen have one in stock. If you are still interested, send me an email.

David's Dad tossed it. :>(
The important thing is to have a rear swaybar. More important than a "heavier swaybar" are new springs, gas shocks, urethane bushings, a good front end alighnment, and a good set of performnce radial...
I would suggest using "Turbo II" mufflers with an "H" pipe, for that clean vibrant sound.

Get some Rover valve instead, they are cheaper.

I have one for sale, as well as other 340 parts.

JML, forget the 340 crank, it won't work unless you throw a lot of money at it, and even then, I'm not sure it would work. Mods for the 300 were in a previous post; check the archives.

Kiwipetrolhead, that is the correct casting number for a 1964 Buick "300" aluminum head.
Dr. Frankenbuick, it sounds like the aluminum manifold will bolt up, but there is a port mismatch issue with the later iron iron heads. An iron 4bbl. manifold with iron heads would be the best setup....
Dr. Frankenbuick, I did'nt know that manifold would'nt fit. What are the differences? The aluminum and iron heads outer appearance seem to be the same?
Andrew, I'm building a 64 300(aluminum heads) for my son; for the street on pump gas. I assume, since yours is a 66 300, it has iron heads. I don't know how much money you want to spend, so I'll just...
Check out applications for full size Pontiac, Olds, and Chev. They will probably interchange.
1) Install gas shocks.
2) Install rear anti swaybar; if you don't already have one.
3) Install new station wagon rear springs.
4) Check all rubber suspension bushings for wear and replace as...
Leo, if you dump the switch pitch trans, I have a rest home for tired ones at my home in Ore.
Yes you can!
