I'm running an A/C water pump on my non-A/C '63 LeSabre. I didn't have any problems with the pullies lining up. It's been on the car over a year now, and I have had no overheating issues so far. ...
What a find! I've got a '63 LeSabre 4 door sedan. Keep us updated on your project!
I've got a '96 Roadmaster sedan. I can't help you much with the technical questions, but it is OBDII, with the LT1, and 2.56 gears. I drove it from NC to GA a couple of months ago (went to look at...
I have the exact same problem on my '93 Park Avenue. I've had it worked on at a dealership twice (big mistake) with no success. One time they said it was some type of rod that had slipped off of...
This feature lasted several more years, my '63 LeSabre works much the same way, although it has the more modern "start" position on the switch, instead of using the gas pedal. I'm not sure when it...
Check the reference section on this site, there is a wealth of tire information there regarding wheels and tires. According to the diameter calculator on that page, the 225/75/15's I have on my '63...
I have a '63 LeSabre, and I don't recall that it has ever "bottomed out" while driving. I'm still running stock configuration exhaust on it, though. It has 225/75/15 tires on it, which are pretty...
That's very interesting. I noticed that a couple of the Centuries used in filming "Highway Patrol" were actually standard shift. I knew that the 248 in my '49 Super has less horsepower than the 248's...
Wow, thank you for the reply! I have never been too familiar with Centuries, my dad nor myself have ever owned one. After reading your post, it indeed makes sense. Thanks for the link too...very...
I've been watching some of the old "Highway Patrol" episodes online, and they regularly feature '55 and '56 Buick Centurys as patrol cars. Some of them were even 2 door models! However, I noticed...
I agree, I like to see them as original as possible. Unfortunately, my '49 was changed to a 12 volt system before I got it. They told me when I bought the car that they couldn't use the original...
You're right! My '49 Super used to be that way, but the ignition switch was changed when it was converted to a 12 volt system, and has to be started with the switch rather than the accelerator pedal...
Hi David,
I can't help you with removing your ignition switch, but I can tell you that my 1963 LeSabre is still "one key fits everything". I don't know how much later than 1963 that went, though. ...
I'd be interested in knowing how hard to do this is too. I've wanted to put a clock in my '63 LeSabre for years, but I thought it'd be a real pain to do most likely.
Your VIN sounds correct, my '63 LeSabre begins "4J6". Perhaps your car is one of the very early '64's and they were using leftover wiring from the '63 model year rather than to discard it???
I've got 225/75/15's on my '63 LeSabre too. They are the equivalent of the old H-78-15 tires, and I *think* these cars actually came with 7.50 X 15's...someone else here will probably know for sure.
I removed the gas tank from my '49 Super and had it cleaned out at a radiator repair shop a couple of years ago. It worked well for me, and I haven't had any fuel-related problems since. Probably a...
All the electric pumps I went through also had a filter on them, you could check that one too. While I was having all the problems, I also dropped my tank and had a local radiator shop to clean it.
No, my car would not start again for at least a half hour. Ebbsspeed had a great suggestion too, check the vent tube on your tank.
I think that part of my problem was a bad needle and seat in...
Is your mechanical fuel pump still on the car, or at least in working condition? When I first got my '49 Super, the previous owner had put an electric fuel pump on the frame just foward of the fuel...
When I was much younger, I had a 1971 Oldsmobile 442, which was an automatic with a console shifter. I had the same problem with it when the shift cable became stretched. It eventually broke,...
Yes, that small round, red light between the turn signal indicators is the high beam indicator. I have a '63 LeSabre, with essentially the same instrument cluster.
Sigh...I know I'm getting...
The Dynaflow transmission in my '63 LeSabre has "burped" about a quart of transmission fluid out through the dipstick tube this summer. After searching this site, I found out that the problem could...
When I was checking the fluid levels on my old LeSabre last week, I found that the power steering fluid level is a bit low. It's not low enough yet to cause the pump to make noise or cause damage,...
OK, I got the new water pump installed last weekend on my '63 LeSabre. At first, I was a bit worried because the replacement pump that I bought was aluminum...but the pump that was on the car was...
