Glad to hear you are keeping a REAL Buick engine! You will like the '54 gears. I did that in my '50. Now has a 3.36/1 . About 650 rpm less in third gear. Have to use 2nd more around town, but...
Welcome!
I like it. Keeping the straight eight?
Ben
Stay with it. You will figure it out.
Ben
Not standard sizes. Available from CARS, Inc, an old Buick parts supplier in NJ.
Ben
Yep. Pull the head. Remove the casting [freeze] plugs and pick and poke away. How I did two different engines. MOST of the gunk will be at the back of the engine. Patience required.
Ben
Get your head up under the dash. You should be able to see a small cable hanging from the bottom of the speedometer, with a turn button on the bottom of it.
Ben
Are you saying you want to use a 1941 crank in a 1950?
Seals should be the same.
Ben
Boy howdy! THREE YEARS. Or has some been posted elsewhere?
Anyway, welcome back into the frey. Anxiously awaiting.
My hopped up 263 has several thousand and a teardown and re assembly.

Replacement engines were black. Original engines, all I have seen, were black under the turquoise. Too bad the turquoise did not stick as well as the black.
Pictures?
The engine number, just...
Thanks, Katu! Quick response.
Sorry you are having problems. What, exactly, was/is the fuel center doing?
Ben
You can trust Tom!

I think if you read closely, the consensus is the voltage matters not. The first one has 12V and an electronic [Pertronix ] ignition. It is the electronic that makes the difference.
Get a...
Voltage has nothing to do with plug gap. If your distributor has points, gap 25 thousandths. If electronic, 40- 55 thousandths.
Ben
The distributor and points do not care what the voltage is. Neither do the plugs or plug wires.
Ben
When I changed mine to 12V, I simply changed all the bulbs to 12V. Installed a voltage reducer in the power line to the gas gauge. Unhooked the radio, heater and clock. Keep intending to address...
Well, not being condescending, but you have me confused. You say it is still 6V. Yet I see a 12V battery. You mention pulling the engine to do a compression check. I just pull the spark plugs. And...
Tell em Tank.
Pat, sorry you are having trouble with the engine. You say not turning over. Not at all? Slow? If it is still 6V, the problem MAY be inadequate battery cables. No, probably. Please raise the hood...
Cost more to make a hybrid out of it than to repair what you have. Dollar to a donut. Been done many times.
Ben
I am with Larry. I see no way for crankcase pressure to be excessive except gasses getting by the rings. With only 250 miles they may not be broken in yet. Perhaps drive a few hundred miles , at...
Correct, Bob. They must be adjusted to the "preload" per the manual.
After that, leave them alone.
Ben
OK, here is the procedure.
Turn the engine until BOTH valves on a cylinder are closed. Loosen the rocker arm adjuster until the arm can me rocked up and down. Now, tighten the adjuster until ...
Does it have hydraulic lifters? In any event, go to "References" at top of this page. There is a 1952, I believe, Shop Manual there. All you will need to know should be found there. After reading...
Tom, works great. Still a work in progress under the hood. Always a way to improve. The unit I got from you, which I was afraid might not be adequate, is fantastic. Can not run full force on a 100...
