Welcome from Texas
The 71 350 can be made to be a fun engine. Just needs a little tuning up.
Go with a quadrajet. Stock Buick quadrajet for a 71 350 was 750cfm. A stock Buick quadrajet intake would perform fine,...
I have not bought from them myself, but I have read horrible reviews from people that have. Many mentioned he will get an order for an item and then he will go source the item. So what you get may...
Hi, and congratulations on the Buick!
Every car is different, but I have run 12.5 X 28.5 sportsman pro's on my 72 with a 10" wheel and 5.5" offset.
Correct. The block doesn't make horsepower, it holds the parts that do. The 73 and later blocks were better castings and have some oil passage improvements from the 70 block.
Edelbrock doesn't have an open plenum intake for Buick, but TA performance has two options. The SP1 is probably best.
oil modifications on the 70 block will require drilling through the oil...
You have an easy goal to accomplish with the 455.
Find a 455 from a 73-74 year
Make sure to do the oil passage modifications!
Forged pistons
Iron heads from 70-74, or some aluminum. If you have...
Welcome.
spend some time to think about what you want the car to be. Stock cruiser? Street strip cruiser with nice cam idle lope. Street legal race car.......etc.
that makes all the difference...
congratulations on your Riviera. But sad to hear of the issues.
Do a compression test and check all of your rockers first. That is easy and doesn't cost much.
If you do a rebuild, there are many...
Just build it strong. Make sure crank is good, rods resized. Yes, balance it! Mild port on heads would be fine. Make sure block deck is done, and heads are decked to be flat. Use ARP bolts to...
Welcome to the forum.
They have been abused and still going strong. This is an old thread, but this car has made many passes down the drag strip and many street miles as well. We pulled it apart one time in the past 7...
Sounds good!
Welcome from Texas.
Good. Glad you found it!
the original style quadrajet is best for performance and fuel economy when built correctly. The quadrajet has ability to flow up to 750 cfm based on engine demand. I have...
If your 350 is complete and original, the intake would narrow down the correct year. The intakes changed quite often to keep up with the emissions standards.
Can an you post a picture? Is it...
Intake appears to be a 72-73. Block and head numbers are a wide range.
there is information in the reference section of this site.
When it is dialed in right, you should have mid 500's. Very similar to my build, except for the heads. I have Edelbrock heads. Making mid 600's now.
The later heads and intake have the EGR circulation ports on them. Sounds like you have late heads and early intake possibly.
If is is an 80 Buick quadrajet, it is probably capable of 800 cfm. The primary side systems. And idle circuits need more work than your secondaries. It won't idle off the idle circuits with the 212...
I don't run E85 in anything I have because it is not readily available. We do have alky injection on the GN for the big boost moments to keep the knock sensor to a minimum. And run pump gas in that...
once the modifications are done for the fuel flow requirements, It would not run with regular fuel.
A quadrajet can be converted to E85 use. Many changes have to be made to allow for the 30% faster burn rate and increased flow, but yes, it can be done. E85 is all you can run at that point, it...
Looks like like that carb is original, which is very good. Too many of these older carbs get ruined by the big generic reman shops and mismatch the parts. This one looks like it will be a great...
